CONSIDER THE POSSIBILITIES -
A LITTLE BEAM OF LIGHT CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE ...
Pigmented Lesions
We're all born with birthmarks (benign pigmented lesions), even if
it's only a few freckles. Some of us are born with more prominent
pigmented lesions, such as cafe-au-lait spots, that can be cosmetically
troublesome if on the face, neck or some other visible area.
Age spots (solar lentigines), too can be cosmetically bothersome.
They're caused by excessive exposure to the sun, and most adults eventually
get them. Some women acquire unwanted pigmented lesions from the hormonal
changes caused by pregnancy or birth control pills.
There used to be little you could do about pigmented lesions. But
now laser technology has revolutionized treatment so that many pigmented
lesions can be virtually erased.
Understanding Pigmented Lesions
Pigmented lesions are caused by an excess of melanin in certain skin
cells (melanin is the substance that gives skin its color). Some pigmented
lesions, such as cafe-au-lait, hormonal and age spots, are closer
to the surface (in the epidermis), while others are deeper in the
skin (in the dermis).
In the past, the only remedy for pigmented lesions was to cover them
with make-up. More recently, dermabrasion, cryosurgery and other techniques
have been tried, but they can leave a scar or a visible white, depigmented
area.
Now there's the new VersaPulse® Aesthetic Laser, a state-of-the-art
system specially designed to treat a full range of pigmented lesions.
Spider Veins
Spider veins are wavy, thin, reddish-purple veins that are visible
on the legs. Often they are clustered on the thigh or below the knee.
Spider veins, or telangiectasias, affect as many as 80% of all women
as they grow older, and also a large percentage of men. The cause
is largely genetic, although other culprits include pregnancy, childbirth,
use of birth-control pills, estrogen-replacement therapy, previous
injury and use of corticosteriods.
Telangiectasias are not usually a medical problem, but they may make
you reluctant to wear a bathing suit or a pair of shorts.
In the past, there was little you could do about spider veins. But
now laser technology has revolutionized treatment so that many spider
veins can be virtually erased.
Now there's the new VersaPulse® Aesthetic Laser, a state-of-the-art
system specially designed to treat a full range of spider veins and
other vascular lesions.
Understanding Laser Treatment
A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Different types
of lasers produce different colors of light. The color of light produced
by a particular laser is the key to the laser's effect on telangiectasias.
Different colors of light are absorbed by specific colors or pigments
in the skin; for example, hemoglobin, found in blood, absorbs yellow-green
light. The laser's light energy seals the vein shut, and the now-diminished
telangiectasia is reabsorbed by the body.
The VersaPulse® Advantage
The VersaPulse® Aesthetic Laser produces short, adjustable pulses
of green light to treat these fine veins. The adjustable pulses minimize
the risk of purplish bruising (purpura). Purpura is a side effect
of many other lasers. Although it may fade in 7 - 10 days, it is an
unattractive side effect. With little or no purpura, as with the VersaPulse®
laser, you are able to resume your normal schedule right away.
The special VersaSpot Chilled Tip™ cools the skin during treatment,
enhancing patient comfort. The entire treatment involves no incisions.
What You Can Expect
The laser treatment itself feels like numerous little pinpricks. Most
patients do not require anesthesia during the procedure. Topical or
local anesthesia is provided for those who do.
The appearance of the treated area immediately after a laser session
will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of treatment.
Immediate after-effects, if any, are minor. They may include redness,
light crusting, or tenderness, all of which disappear in a short time.
We will be happy to tell you more about your treatment and what you
can expect.
